Can iPhone Duo replace an iPad mini?

A smaller diagonal does not make Duo a smaller decision
The Duo inner display is 0.7 inch smaller diagonally than iPad mini, but it folds into a phone and adds an outer display. Compare the tasks and software you use, not only the diagonal number.

Duo can replace an iPad mini when

  • Your iPad mini is mainly for reading, browsing, streaming, messaging, or reference material.
  • Two apps side by side and saved app pairs cover your multitasking needs.
  • Apple Pencil (USB-C) is enough, and waiting for Duo Pencil support later in 2026 is acceptable.
  • One pocketable cellular device matters more than the extra 0.7 inch of iPad mini display diagonal.
  • You want to remove a second device, charger, and data plan from your daily carry.

Keep the iPad mini when

  • You rely on an iPad-only app, iPadOS layout, or a managed work workflow that has not been verified on Duo.
