iPhone Duo first-day setup checklist before you erase the old phone

The most expensive setup mistake is often an early erase. Use this order to preserve a recovery path while the new phone is still being configured.

    Keep the phones near each other and powered. Do not interpret the first Home Screen as proof that every item and account is ready.

  3. Activate the number

    Complete the carrier’s eSIM instructions. If activation fails, record the exact message and contact the carrier before repeatedly deleting profiles.

  4. Verify real life

    Test a call, incoming call, message, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth accessory, camera, photos, password manager, banking or other high-value apps, and Face ID/Touch ID alternatives.

  5. Retire the old phone

    Only after verification, follow Apple’s erase and trade-in instructions for the old device.
